In the face of the commitment and sacrifice
shown by the armed forces, the support ex-servicemen receive on
their return from British military campaigns around the world is
falling woefully short of the treatment they deserve. Many of
these soldiers find themselves ‘abandoned’ or forgotten as they
struggle to cope mentally and physically on their return home.
The Abandoned Soldier is
now acting as a rallying point to support this cause and funds
are being raised for further editions of the bronze to be cast.
Money raised for the statue of “The Abandoned Soldier” will
directly benefit the charities that support all those who have
been forgotten. James Napier is currently in negotiations with military towns
and associations across the country interested in commissioning
one of the works.
Smaller bronze and resin
copies of “The Abandoned Soldier” will also be made with each
copy raising money for the “The Abandoned Soldier Fund”.

Downing Street
Petition
Further efforts are
underway to find the bronze a permanent and meaningful home to
publicly commemorate these ex-servicemen and show the public’s
gratitude for their bravery. A petition has been
lodged on the Downing Street website to have the sculpture
erected permanently on the ‘empty’ plinth in Trafalgar Square.
