James Napier was born in Winchester in 1972 and
educated at Bedales School before studying art at Central St
Martins and then architecture at Kingston University.
Originally starting his career as an architect in London, James
quickly realised this was not his calling and followed his heart
to pursue a career in sculpture. Unable to find a traditional
art training in London, he then moved to Italy to study sculpture and
painting. On his return to England he worked for the sculptor Nick
Green and gained experience working in a number of bronze
foundries.
James deliberately tries to keep his approach to sculpture ‘free’
which helps him capture the movement and grace of the subject
matter, reflecting his desire to cross his classical style
acquired from Italy with a modern attitude gained through
architecture. James is working on a number of
commissions and currently entering the realms of large-scale
corporate and public sculpture. His work is sold in
galleries across Europe.
