Grant McIntyre is a figurative sculptor,
and is both a modeller and a carver. He works in a variety of
media including bronze, terracotta, plaster, wood, wire, rubber,
and combinations of these. His subjects are almost exclusively
people and animals, and his aim is to capture not only character
and movement but a sense of his subject’s experience of the
given moment, whether that is alarm, achievement, affection, the
onset of an idea or the verge of sleep. Grant’s interest in the
lived moment applies whether the subject is an old man, a baby,
a dog or even a toad.
Most of his work is quite small in scale,
intended for the desk or bedside table. He believes that a
piece held in the hand can have as much intensity as something
far larger in a garden or street. He is represented in private
collections both in the UK and abroad, and is now at work on a
series of new commissions. |
