Following in the tradition of the
Modern British artists, a long-term inspiration, the
creative process and materials is central to Henry's
work. These silkscreen prints are produced through a
series of pictorial layers applied to the picture
surface to create such intense colours, texture and
vibrancy.
Henry explains, 'The print evolves
as it is made as each layer of colour and resulting
series of shapes inform the next set of decisions. Many
of these works are printed in up to ten or twelve
colours; every individual colour being a separate
operation often requiring a new screen matrix to be
created, paint colour mixing, the pull itself and drying
time. Every print is a considerable creative and
technical undertaking.
For me the real wonder of screenprinting is the fact
that there is no ‘original’ from which a print is made.
Every print is a journey of intuitive creativity and the
resulting image gains its strength from the twists and
turns taken during the course of its making.'
